If she does not get pregnant that month, the blood and egg will flow from the uterus. They will leave the body through the cervix and vagina. The cervix is like a door at the end of your vagina. The vagina is like a hallway linking the outside of your body to the uterus. When the blood and egg leave your body, this is called your period or your moon time.

Living with Your Hormones
Your body has special chemicals called hormones to help it grow and work. These hormones change during puberty. Hormones cause the changes in your body, such as breast and hair growth. Each month, your body’s hormones also change as an egg ripens and gets ready to be released. Hormones change in the days before and during your period. After you have your period, your hormones go back to the way they were before an egg was released.
Hormones can change the way you feel. You may start thinking about your body differently and about having sex.
Hormones that change right before and during your period can also make you feel hungry, unhappy, or moody. These changes are called Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). These types of feelings are normal and will fade after your period ends.
