Eat the Right Amount

We often eat more food than our bodies need. Even if you eat healthy food, too much food will make you gain weight. You can get to a healthy weight by eating less food at each meal. For example, try to have only 2 pieces of pizza instead of 4 when you are out with your friends.

Cut Back on Junk Food and Fast Food

Cutting back on junk food and fast food is one of the best ways to get to or stay at a healthy weight. Junk food is things like chips, cookies, candy, and sugary drinks. Fast food is food like fries and burgers you might get from a drive-through. These foods should be considered a special treat. Try to limit these foods to less than once a week.

How do I know if my food is a whole grain?

It’s really easy to find healthy whole grain foods. Look at the food label under the ingredient list. If the word before the grain says ‘whole’ then you have a whole grain! You can use this trick when looking for cereal, bread, crackers, and pasta. Even with whole grains, it is very important to pay attention to the serving size. Use the My Native Plate to see how much of your plate should include grains.
